Couples Counseling

In intimate relationships, we all desire:

  • Partners who understand and support our emotional needs

  • To maintain trust and connection while pursuing our own passions

  • Open communication in our sexual relationships

  • To be able to disagree while remaining connected

If your needs are not being met, conflicts can show up in areas like household duties, parenting, sex, finances, and the ability to face challenges together. Often, cycles of conflict and painful events disrupt your feelings of trust and connection. This can cause you to move away from your partner when what you really want is more closeness.

How does Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy work?

In our first sessions, I want to learn your story, what drew you to each other, and the strengths in your relationship. I’ll hear from each of you what has changed, and learn why your needs are no longer being met. We will identify wounds and negative cycles that leave you feeling disconnected, angry, or sad.

As we work together, I can witness the ways you engage with each other and see what triggers your negative cycle. Understanding your patterns of conflict helps us see the deeper emotional needs that you each long to have met. In the safety of our sessions, you’ll learn new ways to deescalate conflict, express your needs, feel heard, and restore closeness.

Your Renewed Relationship

As you practice new ways to communicate, you will experience:

  • Deeper trust and ability to support each other

  • Increased ability to stop negative cycles before they escalate

  • A healthier balance between closeness and independence

  • The joy of being truly connected
